Thought Scraps FAQ

All the questions you ever had about Thought Scraps, answered here:

Who is writing Thought Scraps anyway?

That would be me, Cora Buhlert. You can find out more about me here.

Where can I read some of your writings?

In various magazines and right here on the site. For starters, go here.

I got here via a search engine and I can't find what I'm looking for.

That's probably because it isn't here. Search engines like Google scan the scan the entire text of a website for the search terms you entered. And the rather rambling nature of the blog form means that a lot of unusual word combinations can occur on one page.

What is the WEF?

WEF is short for Warren Ellis Forum, which is one of my favourite online hang-outs.

What is the [dead cities] gang?

The [hypermode] gang is a bunch of people interested in cutting edge SF and fantasy. We met on Gabe Chouinard's Delphi Forum, which recently moved to this EZ-board.

What is newleaf?

newleaf is the literary magazine of the University of Bremen English department. I am a member of the editorial board, in charge of sales (because nobody else wanted the job).

What's the Sixties Viewing List?

I am currently working on a short story called The Glass Tower, which is set in the 1960s. Therefore, I am watching films from that era as reference material. And since I'm watching them anyway, I might as well review them. Besides, I wanted to do something different. Everybody else is reviewing current films, I'm reviewing old ones.

Why are you discovering Doctor Who?

The British TV-show Doctor Who was never shown here in Germany. Recently, my online pal Greg hooked me up with a few tapes of Doctor Who episodes from the 1970s. I watched them and jotted down my thoughts about them here.

Who are the two kids you're tutoring?

Their names are Franziska and Nadine. They are fourthgraders who are just beginning to learn English. Teaching them is a lot of fun, because I'm less tied to grammar and the like and more free to improvise. Besides, it's good money on the side.

What's the separation drama you mention from time to time?

My cousin and his fiancee have recently separated after eleven years together. The couple has a small son and there is an older son from a previous marriage of the fiancee. The whole thing is really sad and the fact that my aunt has declared full-scale war against the fiancee does not help either. I am resolved to keep neutral, but my family isn't exactly making it easy for me. I'm not mentioning names, because I don't want the people involved to read what I'm writing. That's all.
